Chief Sanford: Heavy Smoke Damage to Second Floor of House on Walnut St.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Todd Sanford Tuesday evening, firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor of the house.  The found heavy fire in an upstairs bathroom and heavy, heavy smoke according to Sanford.  

The battalion chief called a second alarm after the fire was knocked down because of the heavy smoke.  There were five fire trucks plus ambulances on the scene.  

The sole occupant of the house was evacuated safely along with her pets.  At least one firefighter was checked out at the scene for possible smoke inhalation.  No one was injured and no one was sent to the hospital.  

Chief Sanford says the occupant will be able to live in the first floor of the structure, but the second floor will require extensive rehabilitation.    

 

UPDATED 4:30 p.m.

San Angelo Firefighters continue work on a smoke-filled house on Walnut St.  Reporters on the scene say Ladder One, Engine Five, Engine Two and Engine Three are on the scene along with two ambulances and other fire official vehicles.  

Firefighters appear to be working on the second floor balcony.  One photo appears to show a firefighter on his knees on the ground being tended to by other first responders.   

SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo Firefighters are at a house on Walnut St. this afternoon which is reportedly filled with smoke.

A reporter on the scene says the smoke was so thick the house was barely visible.
