SAN ANGELO, TX -- 42 Families will have a Merry Christmas thanks to the San Angelo Coalition of Police and Operation Blue Santa.
According to Program Coordinator Officer Brian Bylsma, the SACOP partners with the San Angelo Independent School District to identify and provide underprivileged school children with a Christmas shopping spree for them.
Bylsma says this year, thanks to generous sponsors like Lone Star Beef which gave $5,000 to the program they were able to give each of the children $250 to shop for presents at the Walmart 29th Street.
This is the 11th year that officers are paired with children to shop for Christmas presents. Police Officer’s wives wrapped the gifts for the children after they finished shopping. Bylsma says Walmart donated the wrapping paper and also discounted the items purchased.
Operation Blue Santa paired officers with 19 Children at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and the remaining children shopped at 11:30 a.m.
