Tis' The Season

SAN ANGELO, TX – Each holiday season the Salvation Army runs many programs to assist the public.  One of these programs is called The Angel Tree.  It is designed to help assist families that qualify give children Christmas memories they can't afford themselves.

When you walk into many Wal-Mart and other business locations you may find an "Angel Tree." There are tags with a description of a child's clothing sizes, age, gender, likes and wish list.  If you choose to participate, you can choose any of the tags you want, but please be determined to follow through.  These are the hopes of children under the age of 13, who may receive nothing on Christmas day without the assistance of the Salvation Army.

Once you have purchased the items, bag them together with the identifying tag you have from the Angel Tree.  There is no need to gift wrap according to the Salvation Army of San Angelo representative we spoke to.  Take these items to the front desk at 215 Gillis St. by Dec. 15, and the items will be correctly dispersed on Dec. 17.  If items are not picked up by recipients, they will be circulated through one of the many other charitable community support programs run by the Salvation Army.  If a child's list is not well purchased for, the organization, will also make up that difference.

Each of the families that apply must fulfill obligations to prove their neediness.  Documents of identity, financial need and more a required and they must qualify under the current year's federal poverty guidelines.   This year to qualify as a family of four, you must have a gross monthly income of $2,050 or less.  Each year in November the Salvation Army accepts applicants, screens them for eligibility and then disburses the tags to participating businesses.

Businesses have the opportunity to participate as well, whether with the intention of fulfilling themselves, or displaying a tree with tags for employees and customers to fulfill. Contact The Salvation Army if you or your business would like to participate in this program next year.

If you have any questions regarding The Salvation Army, assistance or the desire to help in any way, please call (325) 655-3838.
