SAN ANGELO, TX — Tucked away on the consent agenda for Tuesday’s City Council agenda was a routine item that might have gone unnoticed yet has been decades in the making and has the potential to have a huge impact on the local business and economic scene.
Council members approved a measure to begin expanding the San Angelo Industrial Park which struggled for decades to attract tenants but is now poised to almost double in size.
According to the Council’s agenda, members approved hiring a company to complete the design of the second phase of the Industrial Park located across Loop 306 from Ethicon in northeast San Angelo. “The new Task 2, of the Professional Services with Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. is necessary to provide the Professional Engineering and Surveying Services for Infrastructure Design for Phase 2 of the San Angelo Business & Industrial Park. The work will help to meet infrastructure requirements for the new AEP facility that is on a short time-line to be built as well as the expansion of infrastructure in Phase 2.”
The council’s consent allows data collection and preparation of a conceptual layout of the park with emphasis on Phase 2, particularly a recommended conceptual layout that would include providing additional smaller lots of five acres more or less and the potential additional infrastructure to support phase 2.
The move also includes applying for an Economic Development Administration grant for infrastructure.
The city council meeting is ongoing and we will update this story later today.
