SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo City Council members and San Angelo Police clashed recently when PD representatives walked away from the meet and confer table over pay for police officers.
According to the report to council for Tuesday’s City Council meeting, “If there is no agreement on compensation, the current contract will expire and and provisions under the Meet & Confer process will revert back to Texas Civil Service Law. The most notable provisions to expire are: a third Assistant Police Chief, part time police officers, sign-on bonuses and lateral transfers.”
The council had budgeted a one percent pay raise for officers in the amount of $119,473 and five additional officers in the amount of $319,815. The report says the salary increase was declined and an impasse was declared by the SACOP team.
In other business, the council will meet in closed session to discuss the Rail Road Museum property at 703 S. Chadbourne.
The council is also set to adopt a budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2017 - 2018. The proposal keeps the tax rate the same at .776 cents per $100 in property value. The same tax rate will raise of $1.5 million in taxes over last year.
The San Angelo City Council meets in regular session Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in council chambers at the McNease Convention Center on River Drive.
