Police Respond to Reports of an Infant Drowning in Backyard Pool

 

SAN ANGELO, TX –  San Angelo Police responded to the 700 block of W 15th at around 1:15 p.m. today for reports of a possible drowning. 

San Angelo Police Department's (SAPD) Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said in a statement that a police officer was in the area on an unrelated call, when the officer was approached by a person who said a child was in need of help. 

Upon arrival, the officer found a 3-year-old male near a backyard pool. According to Gonzalez, the child was taken by ambulance to Shannon Medical Center; the child is now deceased. 

Police continue to investigate the incident.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.

In a press release from the SAPD, it states that investigator's with the Police Department's Child Crimes Unit have responded to the residence. Members with the Crime Scene Investigations Unit and Child Protective Services representatives have also been summoned to the scene. 

This case continues to be investigated as an accidental drowning. 

At this time no further information is available.
