TGCSO Warns Citizens of Large Grass Fire Near Christoval

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Tom Green County Sheriff David Jones urges citizens to be extremely careful with all fireworks and outdoor barbecuing this Independence Day.

Tom Green County Sheriff's Office (TGCSO) warns citizens that the fire danger is extremely high at this point in time

There have already been several small fires today, and various VFDs and Texas Forest Services are currently fighting a large grass fire located in close proximity to the Mt. Carmel Hermitage Monastery south of Christoval.

A LIVE! reporter on the scene observed the fire close to some of the homes in the Chula Robles Ranch subdivision, however, the multiple responding VFDs were able to contain the fire from spreading to the homes. The fire does appear to be diminishing at this time.

Anyone found responsible for careless use of fireworks or fires in general will be prosecuted. The responsible person or persons can also be held financially responsible for any damages sustained during the fire. Those found guilty could also be held liable for any VFD's cost in fighting the fires.

"Diligent precaution must be taken to loss of property and or lives," a TGCSO press release stated. "Please use extreme caution while celebrating our nation’s independence with your family and friends."
