SAN ANGELO, TX – As of 2 p.m. Monday, only 43 ballots have been cast in the runoff election for San Angelo City Council SMD 6. Tom Green County Elections Administrator Vona Hudson said that is a little light. Currently, there are 10,867 eligible voters in SMD 6. Hudson said the department mailed out 252 absentee ballots and as of Monday had only received 148 back. "We need to remind voters that those absentee ballots must be received by election day Hudson said. Election day is Saturday July 8.
Registered voters in San Angelo’s Single Member District 6 can cast ballots beginning Monday for the July 8 runoff election.
No candidate received over 50 percent of votes cast in the May 6 general election between Rebekah Coffman, Billie F. Dewitt and Steve Hampton. Coffman received 388 votes, Dewitt received 611 votes and Hampton got 646 votes.
Dewitt and Hampton received the most votes and are set to square off in the special election.
According to the Tom Green County Elections Office, early voting takes place Monday June 26 through Thursday June 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Elections Office, 113 W. Beauregard on the first floor o the Edd B. Keyes building. Early voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 30 and July 3.
Six polling locations will be open Election Day, Saturday July 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Those locations are as follows:
- Angelo Bible Church, 3506 Sherwood Way,
- Community Medical Center, 3501 Knickerbocker Rd.,
- MHMR, 1501 W. Beauregard,
- Southland Baptist Church, 4300 Meadow Creek,
- TxDOT, 4502 Knickerbocker Rd. Bldg E,
- West Texas Rehab University, 3001 S Jackson St, San Angelo, TX 76904
Only voters registered and living in SMD 6 can vote in the special election. SMD6 includes voting precincts 215, 319, 421 and 424. The district includes part of the southwest section of the city such as the Bluffs and portions of College Hills and Southland bordered roughly by Arden Rd. and College Hills Blvd.
The candidate who receives the most votes will replace Charlotte Farmer who ran unsuccessfully for mayor.
