Vietnam Veterans Celebrate 20th Anniversary of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- Concho Valley Vietnam Veterans will come together this Memorial Day to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at San Angelo's Regional Airport - Mathis Field.

Vietnam Veteran Armando Vasquez said, Goodfellow Air Force Base's Vice Commander of the 17th Training Wing Colonel Jeffery A. Sorrell will be this years featured speaker.  San Angelo's Mayor Brenda Gunter will also speak during Monday's Memorial Day service.

The UH-1 Huey Helicopter was used in Vietnam for combat operations from 1965-69.  It was shot down twice but recovered both times.  All the bullet holes have bee patched and the helicopter has been repainted to its original color by Ranger Aviation.

Sadly, the UH-1 Huey Helicopter was vandalized last July. It has since been renovated.

This special Memorial Day event will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, May 29, at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial at the entrance to the San Angelo Regional Airport. An all-military honor guard will present the colors, and the Twin Mountain Tonesmen will perform.
