Expect Severe Thunderstorms With a Chance of Hail Saturday

SAN ANGELO, TX- Tom Green County is expected to experience severe thunderstorms starting around 3 p.m. on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service of San Angelo.

Hector Guerrero, Warning and Coordination Meteorologist, said there was a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day on Saturday; however, that chance will increase to 60 percent in the evening hours.

“The main threats for tomorrow are large hail and damaging winds,” Guerrero said. “[We] can’t rule out the chance of a tornado either with these weather conditions.”

Though the weather will be spread out across San Angelo at different times, it’s recommend that cars be parked inside of a garage, if available, and outdoor furniture be stored away.  

Guerrero mentioned not to avoid, or change any outdoor plans for Saturday, but recommends having access to severe weather updates in case the weather conditions change.

He explained that the national weather service defines “under a watch” as weather conditions being favorable, but citizens should be prepared to relocate indoors if a weather warning is issued.

“Keep checking on the weather because the spring storm season can tend to be unpredictable at times,” Guerrero said.

The spring storm season lasts from March until the middle of June for West Texas. Guerrero suggested owning a weather radio, or being subscribed to a notification service for severe weather updates in Tom Green County.
