New Watering Restrictions to Begin April 1

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – San Angelo’s water restrictions are changing. On April 1, in keeping with the City’s drought contingency ordinance, outside watering will now be allowed twice every seven days.

Currently, San Angelo is operating on watering restrictions allowing residents to water once every seven days, with a limit of no more than 1 inch per week. However, as of April 1, under standard conservation, residents can now water twice every seven days until October 31. The new watering restriction also prohibits watering from noon to 6 p.m.  On November 1, the watering restriction will revert back to the current restriction until the following April.

According to City officials, San Angelo has 36-months of available water supply. This figure includes water from the Hickory Aquifer and assumes no runoff into the city’s surface water supplies. Furthermore, San Angelo relies upon O.H Ivie and Twin Buttes reservoirs as well as Lake Nasworthy as it primary water sources. As of March 26, Ivie was at 25 percent capacity, Twin Buttes was at 19 percent, and Nasworthy at 82 percent. The O.C. Fisher Reservoir was at 13 percent capacity.

San Angelo has also received 2.75 inches of rainfall to date this year. However, the normal yearly average through March 26 is 3.56 inches, and last year the city had accumulated 4.13 inches of rain by March 26.

The City reminds residents that it is always a violation to allow water to run more than 150 feet down any street, gutter, alley or ditch.

Water violations can be reported to the Code Compliance Division at cosatx.us/water, e-mailing [email protected], or by calling 325-277-8906 and/or 325-657-4409.
