Online System Helps Citizens Keep Track of Valuables

SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo Police are encouraging those people who received new electronics over the holidays to make note of the serial numbers, makes, and models through a free and secure online system.

ReportIt is an online system that helps citizens store important and useful information in the event of theft or loss--information like serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures, and scans of receipts.

The information is password protected and accessed via a Secure Layer (SSL) network connection. An SAPD press release said information entered through the system is also protected by the same high-level security measures used by financial institutions and government agencies.

Information can only be accessed by using the username and password associated with the account. If any property goes missing, the system can print off the owner’s information from any computer with internet access. This makes it easier to provide information to law enforcement officers.

Police want citizens to know nobody expects to be victims of property crime, but, if it does happen, the system can keep track of the important information needed by law enforcement.

Citizens can visit www.reportit.leadsonline.com to create their account.
