SAN ANGELO, TX – One of the coldest cold fronts is about to hit San Angelo this coming weekend with the lowest temperature predicted to be 15 degrees.
The National Weather Service (NWS) of San Angelo has issued a Special Weather Statement today titled “Bitterly Cold Temperatures to Arrive Late Saturday.” The statement said, “An arctic cold front will arrive Saturday afternoon … [where] temperatures will drop below freezing Saturday evening.”
Saturday’s high is set to reach 75 degrees; however, a cold front moving through San Angelo evening will “drop temperatures down pretty decently to around 18 degrees,” said a spokesperson from the NWS. He added that the cold front is expected to hit around 6 p.m.
Sunday morning the temperatures are predicted to be in the teens and lower 20s, with wind chills making the weather even colder and temperatures near zero in some areas. The high for Sunday will be around 35 degrees; however, by the evening, San Angelo will witness the coldest temperature of the week – 15 degrees. No rain chances are in the forecast for this weekend, so ice is not foreseeable at this time.
Monday the weather will climb back up to the mid 50s.
The NWS recommends “for anyone going outside to dress in layers and cover any exposed skin.” They urge the residents of San Angelo to “not remain outside for prolonged periods of time, unless it is absolutely necessary.” For anyone traveling this weekend, the NWS office also recommends to “keep an extra blanket or two in vehicles to remain warm in case you get stranded [on the roads].”
The NWS also advises everyone to bring their pets inside to keep them warm.
Also, for those people using space heaters, please ensure they are placed safely away from any combustibles.
