SAN ANGELO, TX – This Saturday, Dec 17, Angelo State University will be celebrating its Fall Commencement Ceremony. Approximately 600 students will be receiving degrees from the university.
As is tradition, ASU will be hold two ceremonies on Saturday. Graduates belonging to the College of Education and Archer College of Health and Human Services, as well as graduates of the College of Graduate Studies in those fields will be honored at 10 a.m.
For those in the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Business and College of Science and Engineering and graduates of the College of Graduate Studies in those fields will walk the stage at 2 p.m.
For family members unable to attend, ASU will be broadcasting live both ceremonies. The link can be found at www.angelo.edu/commencement.
The guest speaker for both ceremonies will be Dr. Hector Gonzales, who currently serves as the president of Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde. Gonzales was recognized by U.S. President Barack Obama as a Champion of Change for Community Colleges in 2011 and has helped SWTJC become one of the Top 10 Community Colleges by the Aspen Institute in 2012. Gonzales graduated from Angelo State in 1992.
In addition to the commencement ceremony on Saturday, the ASU Nursing Department will host its annual pinning ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16. The ceremony is a nationwide tradition that dates back to the 1800s, in which nursing students are honored for completing their education.
Per a press release from ASU, 172 master’s degrees and 418 bachelor’s degree will be presented to the graduates. Here is a breakdown of the degrees.
