SAN ANGELO, TX- A press release from Angelo State University Chorale and San Angelo Community Chorale announced that they will present their annual holiday concert on Tuesday, Nov. 22, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The free concert will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 37 E. Beauregard Ave. in downtown San Angelo.
The theme of the concert will be “Five Centuries of Sacred Classics.”
The press release stated, “The 70-voice mixed chorales will be joined by guest performers Rev. David Miron, associate pastor and director of music at First United Methodist Church, and ASU alumna Patti Wetzel, retired Lee Middle School director.”
Playing the organ, Miron will accompany the choirs, and Wetzel will give a solo soprano performance of “With Verdure Clad” from Franz Joseph Hayden’s “The Creation.”
The musical program will also include the 13th century plainchant “Of the Father’s Love Begotten, Haec Dies” by Renaissance composer William Byrd; “Sing Praises, Ye Faithful” by Johann Sebastian Bach; “Awake the Harp” by Hayden; “Heavenly Light” by Alexander Kopylov; “The Lord is My Shepard” by Moses Hogan; “Precious Lord” by Thomas A. Dorsey; and “What Sweeter Music” by John Rutter.
The press release noted that “Dr. Michael Yenny, ASU staff accompanist, will accompany the choirs or piano, and the choirs will be conducted by Dr. Pamela Lee, now in her 23rd year as ASU’s director of choral activities.”
