SAN ANGELO, TX - While many joyously scurry about to find sales on Turkeys and pies, tally place settings, and get out their best china, others see Thanksgiving as just another day. On a day that is traditionally celebrated with friends and family sharing a meal, it's sad to say, in this day and time, in America, there are still some who will go hungry and/or spend the day alone.
Twenty years ago, H-E-B Grocery Company, based out of San Antonio, Texas, made a commitment to host an annual 'Feast of Sharing' event in effort to fight hunger around the holidays and bring all people together.
Stephanie Reisner, administrative assistant of H-E-B in San Angelo, said the company will be hosting the feast at different locations all over Texas over the next few weeks.
She said, "Our San Angelo Feast of Sharing will take place Sunday, Nov. 6, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, located at 4608 Grape Creek Road. All are invited to join in the festivities and experience the joy of the season. In addition to a holiday meal, you can enjoy music, arts and crafts, and kids activities‑even an appearance by Santa himself."
For those needing transportation, Concho Valley Transit will be providing free bus rides. Pick up locations are: Route 1 H-E-B ASU (Plaza Verde), Route 2 Bradford Elementary (22nd and Poe), Nueva Vista Apartments, Blackshear Headstart (24th and Brown Street), Route 3 Grape Creek (Family Fellowship Church).
Also, for the first 500 persons needing flu shots, H-E-B Pharmacy Staff will be administering them free of charge. For football fans,Power Systems Computers will provide live streaming of the Cowboys game.
Reisner added, "Come join us as we give thanks for all of life's blessings. Our invitation is open to everyone; the dinner is free, and the memories are truly everlasting."
