SAN ANGELO, TX – Technology has taken over many aspects, so it’s not surprising that in 2016 a lot of people conduct their dating online. It’s so common in fact that, according to a recent study, over 70 percent of Americans have tried online dating.
Here at San Angelo LIVE! we decided to ask the people of San Angelo how they felt about online dating.
Overall, online dating has many perks or benefits that make it a reasonable choice for many individuals. Getting to know someone online allows people to interact with others from different areas, and for many, avoid the awkward small talk of the first date. Whatever the reason for joining online dating sites or apps, it has become very clear that finding love online has rapidly become an accepted and common occurrence in society.
In the poll conducted by San Angelo LIVE!, 31 readers gave their opinion about online dating after answering eight simple questions. Here are the results.
When asked what the best places to meet people were, these were the most popular choices.
3 – I don’t date
4- Concerts
6 – Church
6 – Other Places
8 – Bars
21 – Mutual Friends
(More than one answer was possible for this question.)
When it came to online dating, there was a major gap between the answers. Of the 31 participants, 29 individuals knew someone who had tried online dating; 28 had tried online dating themselves; and finally, 27 people considered online dating as successful.
In the survey, responders were asked to select the sites they had either visited or would be interested in. These are some of the most popular sites.
2 – Farmers Only
2 – Black People Meet
4 – Christian Mingle
9 – Not Interested
11 – eHarmony
14 – Tinder
16 – Match.com
As more and more people join different sites, the social stigma associated with online dating has greatly declined. According to the survey, only four people considered online dating a desperate measure, six had no opinion on the matter and 21 didn’t see it as a desperate measure.
Of course, even though the stigma of online dating has increased, there are concerns people have in regards to online dating. The responders listed the following as their biggest worries when it came to dating online: meeting crazy or psycho individuals and people portraying false identities. The most dramatic answer was the fear for safety, or even death.
But even with these concerns, every year, more Americans look towards online dating as a reasonable and socially acceptable way to meet other single people. Whether people agree with it or not, or are willing to give it a try, online dating is here to stay.
