Joint Art Exhibit to be Held at ASU

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - A press release from Angelo State University has announced that ASU will be presenting a joint exhibit of modern art by Tyler-based husband-and-wife artists James R. Pace and Philana Oliphant. The exhibit with be opening Monday, Oct. 10, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) building, 2602 Dena drive.

The press release stated that the exhibit, titled “Crossings,” will feature everything from sculptures and drawings to prints and mixed media pieces produced by both artists.”

In the EFA Building’s Gallery 193, the exhibit will be free and open to the public from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weekdays through Friday, Nov. 11.

The press release added, “A professor of visual art at the university of Texas at Tyler, Pace has been exhibiting his art at universities, galleries and museums, both in the United States and overseas since the 1970s. He has received numerous awards for his paintings, drawings, prints and mixed media works, and his art can be found in collections throughout the U.S., as well as in France, Hungary and India. He continues to serve as a juror, lecturer and visiting artist at museums, galleries and art centers and universities in the U.S., Germany and Japan.”

Pace has received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Fine Arts from Arizona State University. Pace has trained in the Tamarind Summer Printmaking Program and participated in the International Artist Residence Program in Budapest, Hungary. Oliphant is now a professor of art at Tyler Junior College and previously served as a lecture and visiting artist at UT-Tyler, as well as a visiting artist at the Tyler Museum of art.

Oliphant has also taught art at Trinity Episcopal School in Longview. She was also an artist in residence at the St. Gregory School in Tyler. Oliphant has artwork being shown in the U.S. in states including, Texas, Arkansas, California, Illinois, Louisiana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Overseas, Oliphant has artwork being shown in Germany and India.

Oliphant’s artwork consists of sculptures, drawings, prints and mixed media pieces.
