Whataburger on Bryant to Host National Coffee with a Cop Day

NOTE: This is a press release from Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department.

SAN ANGELO, TX - A cup of coffee is a common bond. And, it can help officers build better relationships with the communities they serve.

Whataburger is committed to police-community partnership — that’s why they’re hosting an event on October 7 from 7-9 a.m. at Whataburger Store #519, 1830 N. Bryant Blvd., for National Coffee with a Cop Day.

Coffee with a Cop was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011, created by members of the Hawthorne Police Department who were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day.

Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police. However, over time the character and composition of our nation’s communities have changed due to shifting demographics, more commuters, and the introduction of different communication methods such as websites and social media.

Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together–over coffee–to discuss issues and learn more about each other.  These events are agenda free.  No speeches or specific topics, just informal conversations about what matters to community residents.

Coffee with a Cop events are opportunities to build relationships in order to better problem solve with the people officers serve.  Please stop by and enjoy a cup of Joe with the 5-O!
