Retired Physicist Gives Science Presentations at ASU

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - A press release from Angelo State University’s (ASU) Department of Physics and Geosciences announced that they will host a pair of science presentations by Dr. Fred Schlachter.

Schlachter is a consultant and policy analyst for the American Physical Society. On Monday, Oct. 10, in the Mathematics-Computer Science (MCS) Building, 2200 Dena Drive, Schlachter will give his presentations.

The presentations are going to be held in room 100 of the MCS Building and will begin at 3:00 p.m. and last until 7:00 p.m. Presentations are open and free to the public.

Schlachter’s talks are designed for the general public, so no specialized science of physics knowledge is needed to attend.  

“At 3:00 p.m., Schlachter will discuss how the public can learn who to trust and what to believe about various scientific issues, including global warming and the safety of vaccines, in his presentation, 'The War on Science: The Age of Disbelief,'" the press release stated. “Then at 7:00 p.m., Schlachter will present 'The Future of Transportation: On the Cups of Revolution.' He will discuss a new model for transportation that uses existing electric cars to solve a variety of transportation that uses existing electric cars to solve a variety of transportation issues, including transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable resources, easing of traffic and parking woes, and reduction of highway deaths.”

Schlachter is a physicist recently retired from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. He is a widely published author of scientific papers and articles and is a fellow of the American Physical Society.

The press release noted, “The American Physical Society (APS) is a non-profit membership organization working to advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics through its outstanding research journals, scientific meetings, and education, outreach, advocacy and international activities. APS represents over 51,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories and industry in the U.S. and throughout the world.”
