SAN ANGELO, TX - A press release from the San Angelo Police Department announced that 42-year-old Daniel Gomez Cuellar, Jr. was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail yesterday afternoon on a variety of offenses.
Cuellar was charged with Criminal Trespass, Evading Arrest Detention with Prior Conviction, Resisting Arrest Search and Transport, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, Criminal Trespass Habitation, and lastly, outstanding warrants after a foot chase with San Angelo Police.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer with the SAPD stated, “Police were dispatched to the unit block of W. 34th St. around 4:30 p.m. for the report of a man with a knife running through yards and into a house. The man was being chased by citizens who observe him attempting to sell stolen property at a neighboring business.”
As officers arrived to the scene, citizens told them they watched the armed man run into a shed at a residence located in the 3300 Block of Grape Creek Road.
Gonzalez continued, “Officers went to the residence and observes a man matching the subject’s description exit the shed and run from them. Officers pursued the man through a yard where he was tackled by an officer.”
When trying to place the man in handcuffs, “the man actively resisted and reached for his waistband," Gonzalez added. "After placing the man in handcuffs, he was searched and officers located a box cutter with a razor blade next to an empty knife sheath.”
Cuellar was also in possession of drug paraphernalia, pecans, and a small flashlight with a UPC tag attached.
Cuellar also received a small cut to his hand when he was jumping a chain-link fence during his flight. Due to this injury, Cuellar requested medical treatment. San Angelo Fire Department Medics arrived and treated the minor injury.
“When officers searched the shed Cuellar had been hiding in, they located pecans, fresh blood, a flashlight with a UPC tag, a large knife and a small quantity of suspected narcotics which field-tested positive for Methamphetamine,” Gonzalez said.
During the investigation, police learned that prior to Cuellar entering the shed in Grape Creek, he entered a residence in the unit block of W. 34th St., but left after he was confronted by the homeowner.
