SAN ANGELO, TX - Several months ago, San Angelo Chef Tim Condon became a household name with a controversy of all things: his proposed new business signage. Many of us have read about the past argument regarding "size," and fortunately, with some give and take, good has prevailed once again; the cactus will rise! Besides putting the final touches on his Angry Cactus West Texas Bar & Grill restaurant, and set to open in another month or so, Condon has his irons in a couple of other endeavors as well.
As president of the San Angelo Restaurant Association, Condon was proud to announce, for those who haven't heard, "tomorrow, September 13, will be our 41st Annual 'Taste of San Angelo' event."
This year's event will take place at the First Community Federal Credit Union Spur Arena at 200 W. 43rd Street in San Angelo.
At 6 p.m., Condon said tasters with a VIP pass will gain entrance, and then those with general admission tickets will come in at 6:30 p.m.
"There's well over 40 restaurants participating this year, and there will also be a silent auction," Condon added. "Tickets are $25 at the door, and all the money raised will go towards furthering culinary education in the Concho Valley."
For those who have never been to the event, Condon said, "When you first walk in, they give you a plate, and then you just walk around to the various booths and sample their food."
Overall, there will be a large variety of just about any food one could think of.
"There's usually about 2,500 people who show up, and we're pretty close to that number, but people can still get their tickets at the door or at one of the local restaurants listed on the graphic," said Condon.

And then, for those who are in to competitive eating, Condon also has a separate event lined up in a few days as well. His Lonestar Cheeseburger Company, located on the corner of Beauregard and Abe Street, will also host its 4th Annual Cheeseburger Eating Contest this Thursday, September 15.
"We usually have around 300 people show up, but there are only 15 slots available. The entry fee is $25 and tickets will be sold the day of the event on site. Last year's winner ate almost eight sliders in the 5-minute time allotment. This year's winner gets $500 cash, a trophy, and their name written on our 'Wall of Fame.'"
The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m., Condon noted.
For more information on participants, check them out on their individual Facebook pages, and be sure to support locally owned businesses as well as the culinary arts by attending these family-friendly events.
