SAN ANGELO, TX - This summer seemed to fly by for many people, and as the next season approaches, besides football fans, perhaps the next thankful group for this change are the hunters.
For the last 24 years, the West Texas Boys Ranch has hosted its annual Wing Fling Dove Hunt to kick off the season. This year's event will take place on Monday, September 12. Presented by the 1st Community Federal Credit Union, the event will be based at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church Hall at 8602 Texas Loop 570, in Wall Texas, and proceeds will benefit the West Texas Boys Ranch.
Angelina Osornio Torres, Public Relations Director for the WTBR, said, "The event will start at 3 p.m. We'll have two different waves go out: one at 3:30 p.m., and the next from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. We've had quite a few father-son teams sign up, but no women competitors as far as I know so far."
Hunters are encouraged to register early since slots are limited and the fees for individual hunters are $150 each. The event consists of a hunt and live auction, with a steak and shrimp dinner to follow. For those who don't want to hunt but would like to enjoy a nice dinner, the cost is only $10.
Torres added, "We've had some very generous sponsors donate items for the auction, and want to especially thank the farmers in Wall who have generously donated their land for the hunt."
Torres said the participants' registration fee automatically enters all hunters into a raffle, sponsored by Oasis Crop Insurance, and the prize is a Fabarm L4S Initial Hunter 12-gauge shotgun."
Sponsors are still needed for the event and various sponsorship packages are available. Most sponsor packages include hunter registrations, and the levels available are:
• $3,000: Receive 6 Tickets
• $2,000: Receive 4 Tickets
• $1,000: Receive 2 Tickets
• $500: Receive 1 Ticket
• $250: Signage Only
All packages include signage at the event, and signage must be provided by the company. All sponsors will have their logos added to the poster.
As a Christian "home community," The West Texas Boys Ranch, a non-profit organization, est 1947, serves as a trusted friend to parents who desperately need help in raising their sons, a safe home for boys to grow and learn, and a valuable resource in building better communities.
