Catch Some Cowboy Poetry at Fort Concho

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - A press release from Fort Concho announced its annual fall speaker series during lunch hours. Each Wednesday in September, Fort Concho will feature a wide range of topics from the Edwards Plateau to Cowboy poetry.

Admission to speaker series is free. Each presentation happens from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the fort’s Commissary at 702 Burgess St. Attendees may bring a lunch or can order a sack lunch from Mr. T’s Deli for $8.00 by calling (325)657-4441 by 5:00 p.m. the preceding Monday.

This year’s lineup of topics and speakers includes:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 7: “The Old Sergeant,” presented by local historian Conrad McClure.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 14:Geology, Water & History of the Edwards Plateau” by geologist Stephen Shaw.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 21: “Classic Cowboy Poetry” by local historian Monte Jones.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 28: “Leyte Gulf and the Freeman” by local historian Robert Broene.
