Randy Rogers Band Headlines San Angelo's Stripes Riverfest 2016

On September 16 and 17, San Angelo will be celebrating its fourth annual Stripes River Festival. Each year the festival has grown bigger and bigger.

Sidney Walker, Civic Events Manager for the City of San Angelo, helped create and put on this event every year.

He said, “This is my first year actually having full range and be able to take charge of what River Fest is.”

Walker said his dream for this event, a celebration on the banks of the Concho River, is to become comparable to Austin City Limits in the Capitol City east of here.

“I look at it as something I want to see in a magazine as one of the top 10 festivals out in Texas. I hope we can get there one day,” Walker added. “My vision is more [about] getting everybody out of the house and coming out and supporting a great community event.”

This year there, something special is coming to River Fest. This will be the first year for a great headlining concert. Saturday night, Sept. 17, the Randy Rogers Band will headline the River Fest Concert.

Walker said, “We’re looking forward to it. This is one of the biggest events that I can actually think of at the RiverStage of Texas Country.”

In addition to the Randy Rogers Band, Kyle Park will be opening up the show for the night. Bringing these bands to San Angelo River Fest is creating a new element for the event.

“I feel that we are going to be bringing a lot more Texas country music stars, but not only Texas country music. We’ll start getting out to all types of genres. That’s one of my biggest goals,” Walker stated.

Tickets for the Randy Rogers Band are general admission and cost $20. VIP packages are available for $60 each. Children 12 and younger get in for free. Tickets can be found online at roadhousetickets.com.

During the weekend of River Fest, on the evening of Sept. 16, Tejano music lovers will also get to enjoy AJ Castillo, Stefani Montiel and Los Tejanos. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m.

For the Tejano concert, the first 200 tickets sold will be priced at $12. After the 200, the price will go up to $14. Tickets for this concert can be found online at cosatx.us/tickets, by phone at(325) 658-6464 or at the City’s five outlets.

The River Fest will not only have concerts going on through the weekend. Kids will have plenty of things to do. A kid’s court will be available that will include a petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables and more.

“This year, we are adding another element to the [kid's court],” said Walker.

Additionally, there will be a talent show for kids.

“This is the first time we have added a different element to where kids can get on stage and be able to perform and show their talent,” said Walker.

Many more events will be available for the public to enjoy during the River Fest event. To find a detailed schedule of Saturday's events, go to http://www.cosatx.us/departments-services/parks-recreation/river-fest.
