ASU Earns National Fundraising Award

A press release announced today that for the second consecutive year, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) recognized Angelo State University with a Sustained Excellence Award in Fundraising.

The Sustained Excellence Award recognizes exemplary fundraising programs that have garnered a CASE Award for Educational Fundraising in either Overall Performance or Overall Improvement in three of the last five years.

ASU was selected to receive 2016 Overall Performance, Overall Improvement and Sustained Excellence awards based on the judges’ analysis of three years of fundraising data submitted by ASU to the Council for Aid to Education on its annual Voluntary Support of Education Survey. ASU also received those three awards from CASE in 2015.

Brian Flahaven, CASE director of legislative, foundation and recognition programs, said, “Fundraising at educational institutions continues to grow on campuses across the country as more institutions realize the high value and impact of well-maintained fundraising programs. These awards acknowledge the exceptional work of those institutions.”

In the fiscal year 2014-15, ASU supporters donated a record $15.3 million, surpassing the previous fundraising record of $13 million in 2013-14. Prior to that, the record had been $7.7 million in 2011.

The 2014-15 record included a $5 million grant from the James B. and Lois. R. Archer Charitable Foundation in San Angelo to help expand the facilities in the new campus building that will house the Archer College of Health and Human Services.

“Our development staff led by Jamie Akin continues to do outstanding work raising both grant and private funds for Angelo State,” said ASU President Brian J. May. “Monetary gifts and donations support many valuable academic programs and facilities that help ASU attract quality students and offer them a top-notch education. This CASE Award is also an example of the outstanding support we have in West Texas for Angelo State from our friends and alumni.”

Akin has been ASU’s executive director of development and alumni relations since 2012.

Founded in 1974 and based in Washington, D.C., CASE is an international organization of higher education professionals in the fields of alumni relations, development, communications and marketing. Its Educational Fundraising Awards honor exemplary fundraising programs and activities. More details are available at www.case.org.
