SAPD to Honor Vasquez & Fant in Retirement Ceremony

 

Thursday, July 28, the San Angelo Police Department will hold a retirement ceremony at 4:00 p.m. at the McNease Convention Center, said a, SAPD press release.

According to the release, both Vasquez and Fant have served the department for over 20 years, dedicating their lives to serving the City of San Angelo.

Vasquez joined the SAPD at the age of 19 as a dispatch officer. Over the years, he moved up in the ranks until being elected police chief in 2004. During his time with the SAPD, he served in several divisions including: Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Community Services Division where he worked in the DARE/GREAT section, and as a handler in the K9 unit. Chief Vasquez was reelected in both 2008 and 2012.

Vasquez holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University; he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Chief Vasquez also holds a Master Peace Officer License, graduated from the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Series Session 59, and is a is a graduate of Leadership San Angelo.

During his time in the department, Vasquez received various awards and recognition, including acting as the both Vice President and President of the Texas Police Chiefs Association. He also served as a board member on several organizations such as the Children’s Advocacy Center Advisory Board, the Shannon Hospital’s Health and Wellness Advisory Board and the San Angelo Museum Board.

Assistant Police Chief Fant joined the SAPD in 1992. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1998, Lieutenant in 2005, and Assistant Chief in 2009. Fant holds both a Bachelor's and Master's in Business Administration from Angelo State University. He too holds a Master Peace Officer's license and is a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Series Session 235.

During his time with SAPD, Fant severed as member to several organizations including the International Chiefs of Police Association, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, the City of San Angelo Service Excellence Advisory Team and the Children’s Advocacy Center Advisory Board.

Tomorrow's ceremony will be open to the public.
