Hope and a Haircut

This upcoming Saturday, July 23, the first ever ‘Hope and a Haircut’ event will be held at the Calvary Baptist Fellowship Center, 2321 Armstrong St.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 10 professional hair stylists from San Angelo will be volunteering their time to help out and give the community a new hair style.

Stacy McCormick and Bobby Rogers are spearheading the event. Bobby, the pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, and father of Stacy, has been helping his daughter make this event possible.

The idea for this event strived from a similar event held by a beauty school in Oregon, but on a smaller scale. Stacy wanted to bring this type of help and hope to the community for the people who need it.

Stacy explained that the free haircuts are for anyone whom would not be able to go into a salon because they cannot afford it. Stacy stated, “We just want to reach out and minister to the community in a unique way.”

The Center has also installed items to help it feel like a real salon.

“We’ve installed shampoo bowls, so it will kind of be like going to the salon,” Stacy explained.

Jim Bass Ford has pitched in and helped with products for the ‘Hope and a Haircut’ event. Chick-fil-A will also be providing the meal for that day. Chicken sandwiches, tea and lemonade will be provided for the community. The center will provide chips and cookies to go along with the sandwiches.

As well as helping the people who cannot afford a haircut, Kids Eat FREE will also be a part of the event.

Kids Eat FREE is a summertime lunch program that provides free meals to anyone 18 and younger at a number of locations throughout the community. Stacy is hoping that this event will reach them as well.

As of now, Stacy is expecting 100-150 people to turn out to this event. Crafts for kids will be at the Center. The crafts will help keep the children entertained until it's their turn for a haircut.

“We will feed them and love on them, and hopefully make a difference in their life,” said Stacy.
