The beloved children’s movie Tarzan is coming to life this weekend at the Foster Communications Coliseum, 50 E. 43rd St in San Angelo.
Disney’s Tarzan the Musical is not the average kid’s production. This musical will feature a cast of 72 actors ranging from 12-18 years old who perform with the San Angelo Broadway Academy Youth Theater. Ten of the actors will be flying throughout the show.
Angela Brooks, from the Foster Communications Coliseum, described a few scenes that will take place during the performance. She said Tarzan will be swinging through the jungle on a vine; a spider will be creeping down into the jungle; and a couple of gorillas and apes will be flying as well.
Some songs that will be featured include "You'll Be in My Heart," as well as "Son of Man" and "Two Worlds." This Disney performance will be one of a kind for sure.
Brooks said, “I think that Tarzan is a wonderful musical to take your family to because the theme of the musical is about family, and the fact that they don’t have to be our blood relatives for us to consider them family. The other thing is about letting go. It’s about being parents and watching your children grow up and letting them out into the world.”
The musical performance will be held this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 20-22, and the showtimes are as follows:
- Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for General Admission and $10 for students 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance at sabroadwayacademy.org or by calling 325-763-4807. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour prior to each performance with doors opening for seating 30 minutes prior to curtain.
