After a slow first day of donations because of technical failure, and after getting extended for another 24 hours, the 2016 San Angelo Gives Campaign online event, put on by the San Angelo Area Foundation, is proving to be one of the most profitable yet. For 2016, San Angelo Gives topped the $1 million mark, raising $1,005,364 for area non-profits.
San Angelo Gives is a powerful 24-hour online giving event that connects the Concho Valley with community non-profits to reinforce the value of both local philanthropic giving and community engagement. Local nonprofits’ involvement in the event gives members of the San Angelo community the chance to find and support an organization whose mission aligns with their passion.
“Last year was our first year to host San Angelo Gives, and we raised $787,000 in 24 hours,” said Janet Karcher, vice president of Development and Marketing at the San Angelo Area Foundation. “And we hope to surpass that goal in 2016.”
There are 135 nonprofits in the Concho Valley area that people can donate to. There are nonprofits for animals, arts and culture, community improvement, education, environment, health, human services, and youth development. This year they have added 25 non-profits to that list for donations.
The San Angelo Area Foundation was established in 2002, and offers a great way for donors to make charitable gifts while retaining the highest possible amount of flexibility and effectiveness. Serving San Angelo and surrounding counties, the Foundation supports the San Angelo community by encouraging long-term, local philanthropy, assessing and responding to community needs, providing flexibility and efficiency for donors with varied interests and giving capacities, and serving as a resource and a catalyst for organizations.
“San Angelo Gives is part of a national effort called Give Local America, and so there are over a hundred community foundations across the nation that are hosting their own giving days in their communities today,” mentioned Karcher.
