A press release Wednesday announced that the City of San Angelo will celebrate the Red Arroyo Trail’s official grand opening, Saturday, May 14, with a fun run benefiting Concho Valley PAWS, a bike ride, bounce houses, pet adoptions and other family-friendly offerings.
Co-sponsored by the City’s Recreation Division and PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving), the event will be headlined by a Retro Run benefiting the pet adoption group. Registration for the 5K run and 1-mile run/walk is $20 through May 13, at conchovalleypaws.org/retrorun. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants. Late registration the day of the race will be from 7:45 a.m.-8:45 a.m. at Unidad Park and will cost $25.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. near Unidad Park. Awards will be given to the first- through third-place runners and to the best retro running outfit. The run is open to all ages and leashed pets, though minors must have a parent sign a consent form.
Afterward, there will be a bike ride at 10 a.m.
Among the informational booths in Unidad Park, Concho Bike Shop will give away a Specialized brand bicycle. Along with the booths, other activities will be available such as, inflatable bounce houses, Animal Shelter dogs available for adoption, Nature Center animals, a live radio broadcast sponsored by TLCA, and the Central High School baseball team using a radar gun to see how hard youngsters can throw.
