ASU Staffers Win CASE Awards

ASU staff members for communications and marketing, Jayna Phinney, Tom Nurre Jr. and Ethan Lankford received awards for their work at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District IV annual meeting in Dallas earlier this month.

Phinney, a web information specialist, won a Silver Award in the Web Blog category for her implementation and oversight of the official ASU blog “Navigating Higher Ed” (http://blogs.angelo.edu/).

Some of the features included tips and strategies for student success in all aspects of campus life. All entries are written by ASU students and select faculty and staff who are recruited and trained by Phinney.

Nurre, a news and information specialist, won a Bronze Award in the Social Media- Integration category for his feature story, “Thrill of the Hunt”. The story talked about an ASU animal science student succeeding in college despite suffering a spinal injury that has confined him to a wheelchair.

The integrated video of the student, Jacob Reicheneker of Tuscola, was one of the most-viewed videos of 2015 on the ASU YouTube page, and the story received the highest number of shares from the ASU Facebook page for 2015. The story is available at www.angelo.edu/jacob-reicheneker.

Student videographer Ethan Lankford received an Honorable Mention Award in the Video – Student Produced category for his entry “Angelo State Homecoming Video,” which highlighted all the events and activities of ASU’s 2015 Homecoming Week. Additionally, communications and marketing staff member Leonor Constancio, creative projects coordinator, was recognized for her work at the Higher Ed Marketing Report’s 31st Annual Educational Advertising Award in Marietta, Georgia.

She received a Silver Award in the Outdoor/Transit Billboard category for her design direction of the “Raise Your Voice!” banners that feature ASU student-athletes and currently adorn the light poles along Jackson Street that border the east side of the ASU campus.
