WIC to Open New Clinic at Goodfellow AFB

A press release announced that the City of San Angelo’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) division will open a satellite clinic at Goodfellow Air Force Base on May 3, 2016.

The clinic will be open from 8 a.m.-noon, and from 1 p.m.-5 p.m., on the first and third Tuesdays each month. The clinic will be located in Goodfellow’s Airman & Family Readiness Center at 171 Valiant St., Building 145.

WIC is a special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infant and Children with a proven record of improving the diets for infants, children and pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women who are at risk for nutrition-related illness.

WIC’s participants include foster parents, grandparents, single moms and dads. The program is available to anyone in the community who qualifies. WIC serves citizens in San Angelo and six surrounding counties.

Our new Goodfellow clinic gives us a golden opportunity to reach and to serve an important military clientele at a place that is familiar and convenient to them,” WIC Manager Gillian Mackenzie said. “We’re looking forward to helping our military families by providing healthful foods, nutrition education and support for mothers who breastfeed.”

The Goodfellow clinic will be WIC’s third satellite location. In addition to its main office in the Community Development Building at 52 W. College Ave. (adjacent to City Hall), WIC operates in:

  • Ballinger, at 706 Strong Ave., from 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on the first and second Mondays of the month, and every Wednesday and Friday.

  • Coleman, at 303 E. College Ave., from 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. the last two Mondays of the month and every Thursday.

The main office is open 7 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. It is also open by appointment from 8 a.m.-noon the second Saturday of each month.
