SAISD Officials Announce Student Tranfer Applications and Host Symposium

A press release today stated that San Angelo ISD will begin accepting in-district and out-of-district student transfer applications for the 2016-2017 school year on March 21, 2016, the Monday following spring break.

Applications may be obtained at campus offices or at the administration building at 1621 University Ave. In-district applications may be downloaded from the SAISD website. Those interested in out-of-district transfers should call or visit the SAISD Student Services office. SAISD does not charge tuition for out-of-district transfers.

Additionally, all applications must be hand-delivered to the administration building between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on school days. Applicants who submit applications before May 1 will receive a response from the district in early June. Applicants who submit applications after May 1 may not receive a response from the district until late July or early August.

For more information regarding transfers, contact the office of Eddie Heath, Director of Student Services, beginning March 21, at 947-3838, ext. 170.

In other news, SAISD will hold Dr. Carol Ann Bonds annual TRIYS Symposium on Wed., March 23, 2016, at the Houston Harte University Center, CJ Davidson Room at Angelo State University.  Students will be presenting their research projects from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The public is invited to attend.

SAISD said the TRIYS program is an independent research program that was "near and dear to the heart of former SAISD Superintendent Dr. Carol Ann Bonds." She initiated the program eight years ago as a way to challenge gifted and talented students in the rigorous and focused research process. Her successor, Dr. Carl Dethloff, desires that this program continue to grow and thrive. To honor Dr. Bonds for her dedication to the GT program and advanced academics, the newly designed symposium has been named in her honor.

There are 250 students participating in the Symposium that range from grades 1 through 5. Students have spent significant time researching a topic they are passionate about and addressing the question “How can I make a difference?”
