CSS Hosting Infrastructure Security Workshop

 

Today, Angelo State University’s annouced that the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Security Studies (CSS) will host a two-day Infrastructure Resiliency Workshop. The workshop will be held from February 29 to March 1, and will be located at the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The “Critical Infrastructure Protection: Energy Priorities for Today and Tomorrow” workshop is designed to identify and discuss the vulnerabilities and threats to our regional and national critical infrastructure, and to establish a forum for increased security collaboration between various government and law enforcement agencies and energy/utilities providers.

The Angelo State CSS is coordinating the workshop in conjunction with Texas Tech University. Workshop sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, March 1, in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center. All sessions are open free to the public, and online registration is available.

Featured presenters during the workshop will include:

  •  Dr. Annette Sobel, executive for critical infrastructure protection, Texas Tech University
  •  Dr. Danny Reible, Electrical/Engineering Department, Texas Tech University
  •  Dr. Vittal Rao, director of the Power Grid Energy Center, Texas Tech University
  •  Dr. Anna G. Gipson, Bioterrorism Response Laboratory
  •  Dr. James Phelps, assistant professor of security studies, Angelo State University
  •  Steve Mild, emergency management coordinator, San Angelo/Tom Green County
  •  Buck Hamilton, Department of Homeland Security
  •  Gary Scheibe, security director, Shell Oil Inc.
  •  ASU homeland security graduate students

Topics to be discussed at the workshop will include:

  •  Cybersecurity of Critical Infrastructure
  •  Homeland Security and Threats to Municipalities
  •  Energy Sector Risk Management
  •  Water and Wastewater Potential Threats
  •  Police and Homeland Security for Energy, Water and Transportation Sectors
  •  Public-Private Partnerships

Texas law enforcement officers who attend the workshop are eligible for 12 hours of continuing education credit through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
