VIDEOS: Winners of the 2016 San Angelo Stock Show Premium Sale

Saturday, for the closing of the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, a premium sale was held in the show barns. The premium sale is held for local businesses to contribute money to the youth showing livestock.

This money can be used towards scholarship funds or buying new livestock animals for the following year. The sale included 136 exhibitors during the live auction and 78 exhibitors for add-ons. This makes a total of 214 4-H and Future Farmers of America students to whom regional businesses contributed.

Derek Morrison, the Vice President of Operations at Glazer’s Wholesale said, “Today is the prize money day for all of these kids.”

Jim Bass Ford was one of the main contributors during this sale. The car dealer contributed a generous about of money to the first eight exhibitors as well as many throughout the rest of the sale. Todd Price, the General Manager of Jim Bass Cars and Trucks said that they donated to 40-50 kids during the sale. That is roughly one-fifth of the auction that they helped support.

Price said, “Today’s sale was phenomenal, considering the economy that we are in today. With a lot of the oil field business going away we didn’t have that participation in today’s sale.”

Due to that loss of business, “the local folks, the local owners and business owners just really stepped up and helped these kids today, and that’s what it’s all about,” Price said.

Last night, the total bids, unofficially, for the Premium Sale was estimated to be around $673,000 but more “add-on” money was expected that may bring the total over $700,000. This is slightly down from last year’s. Because the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo is a 501(c)-3 as classified by the IRS, all donations are tax-deductible.
