San Angelo Police Officers Have an Unlikely Valentine

San Angelo Police Officers received a pleasant surprise this afternoon. Students from Fannin, Fort Concho, and Santa Rita Elementary schools presented the officers with Valentine's Day cards they made specifically for them.

As several officers gathered together, Police Chief Tim Vasquez explained how excited and grateful he was for this to take place. He also stated that the students were going to hand out Valentine's to the officers in the room.

"But, we will leave the box and make sure that the officers throughout the other shifts will have access to grab one,” Vasquez said. He wanted to make sure that not a single officer was left out.

Before making the rounds, the students, Taegan Self, Taelye Self, and Wyatt Bosworth, told the entire crowd “Happy Valentine's Day,” which resulted in an excessive round of applause and many “Awws” from everyone in attendance.

The three youngsters made their way around the room, personally handing each officer a handmade card. All the officers expressed their gratitude with a “thank you,” and many asked for high-fives from the students.

“We do want to thank you for thinking about us during Valentine's,” Chief Vasquez said as he addressed the children and the attendees. “We are very grateful that you wanted to do this and you did this for us. It's very humbling, and I know that the officers greatly appreciated it. We think that the community has come so far in supporting us in the last year alone. This is a great reaffirmation to our employees and our officers; they're doing what we're suppose to be doing. So, thank you very much.”

Prior to adjourning, the students were able to tell the crowd how this made them feel, why they think officers are important and also ask the officers a couple of questions.

Wyatt stated that it made him feel “good,” with a big smile on his face. He also added that police officers “take all the bad stuff away.”

Taegan said, “They help me if I get robbed."

Taelye added, “I just want to thank them for doing what they do because they don't usually get thanked.”

This Valentine's Day, please remember that not all officers get to have a nice dinner or a date with their loved one. Many will be working to protect our community so that the citizens can safely take their significant other out to celebrate. Remember to thank them for all that they do.
