The principal at Lamar Elementary School, 3444 School House Rd. in Southland, has evacuated all students and faculty this afternoon due to a grass fire approaching the school from across the railroad tracks there, San Angelo ISD public affairs said.
San Angelo ISD said that all of the children are safe and outside of the structure in the front of the school. The time to let school out nears, and San Angelo ISD did not specify if any of the procedures for picking up the children from school have changed due to the nearby grassfire.
The San Angelo Fire Department is busy attempting to contain the fire, with billowing white smoke rising high into the air from the southwest side of San Angelo.
We will have an update when more information is available.
