San Angeloans have been flocking to the nearest convenient store to get their Powerball tickets for Saturday's drawing for $700 million, which is where the jackpot is currently sitting. It will be quite a bit more by the time the numbers are drawn tomorrow night.
Carolyn Foley, an employee of Stripes Convenient Store on North Chadbourne, said she is very impressed with sales.
“Wednesday night we sold over $1,000 worth,” which is an impressive number for the size of her store, she said. “Today, [people] have been coming in regularly and buying 3,4, and 5 at a time,” Foley added.
Foley stated she is already anticipating the sales to climb even further.
“I have a feeling we are going to be very busy tomorrow," she noted. "After work at 5 o'clock, it will really pick up until 9 o'clock tomorrow night.”
She also explained that most customers have been really excited about the Powerball drawing and making comments such as, “What am I going to do with this money?” and, “I wish I could win it.”
“A lot of [people] said that they want somebody here to win it,” Foley added. “Somebody in Texas, or somebody in San Angelo, but they are all really excited about it [in general].”
The Powerball drawing is at 9:30 tomorrow night, and Foley added, “To be safe, I would get your ticket before 9 p.m.”
