Local Craftsmen Gather for Cactus Market Days

Local craftsmen have been gathering in the Cactus Hotel parking lot once a month for two years now for Cactus Market Days, and this past Saturday was no different. On average, there are about 15 vendors who come out each month to sell their products and show off their talent. Aprons, candles, dream catchers, and birdhouses are just a few of the handcrafted items shoppers will find.

Judy Fowler, the owner of Candles Handmade by J.F., which is located at 4106 Sherwood Way, organized the event because she is also a local craftswoman herself, and appreciates the work and talent of her fellow San Angeloans.

In addition to local craftsmen, food vendors, entertainment, and community booths are welcome.

Joan Watkins, Fowler’s sister and co-coordinator, stated, “Each month that we are here, we try to have a community booth.” Toys for Tots was present Saturday afternoon.

Watkins stated that about 300 people on average show up every time she and her sister host Cactus Market Days.

“Just having people get out and have somewhere to go and knowing that we are going to be here every month,” is the reason for continuing Cactus Market Days," she said.

Unfortunately for this past Saturday, weather kept quite a few shoppers and vendors away. The wind and cold were not ideal situations for outdoor tents. However, Saturday's poor turnout will not keep Cactus Market Days from returning next month.

Every third Saturday of the month, Cactus Market Days will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot behind Tarpley’s Music on Twohig Ave. New vendors are always welcomed and those interested should contact Judy Fowler at 325-234-5566.

This monthly event is a way for the community to buy and sell locally and show support for one another.
