Christmas at Old Fort Concho Hosts 18th Annual Gingerbread House Contest

Christmas at Old Fort Concho's 18th annual gingerbread house contest will feature two categories: general, for any holiday design; and special for any type of "house," be it a firehouse, doghouse, schoolhouse, etc., said a press release Tuesday.

A decorated cookie contest will also be featured at Christmas at Old Fort Concho.

Entry forms for both contests must be received by December 1 at 630 South Oakes Street. Entries will be received at the Port Hospital on December 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Judging will begin that day at 2:30 p.m. and all entries will be displayed throughout Christmas at Old Fort Concho, which will run December 4 through 6.

Age classes from 6-8 up to adult will be offered in both contests.

According to the press release, each class in the gingerbread house contest will offer cash prizes of $35 for first place, $25 for second place and $20 for third. Prizes in the cookie contest will be $25 for first place, $15 for second and $10 for third.

All items of all gingerbread houses must be made of edible materials, and cookies must consist of six decorated cookies. Taste, appearance, and originality and use of materials will be the criteria for judging the cookies.
