Watering Restrictions Tighten Nov. 1

Outside watering will be limited to once every seven days beginning Sunday, Nov. 1, in keeping with the City’s drought contingency ordinance.

San Angelo has been under standard conservation, which limits watering to twice every seven days, but prohibits watering from noon to 6 p.m. By ordinance, watering restrictions tighten to once every seven days from Nov. 1 through March 31, though outside watering is allowed at any time of day during this span. Watering is limited to no more than 1 inch per week.

Regardless of the drought stage, it is always a violation to allow water to run more than 150 feet down any street, gutter, alley or ditch.

“Despite abundant rains earlier this year, we are still in the midst of an historic drought and our water supply is still at a premium,” Water Utilities Director Bill Riley said. “We strongly encourage our customers to continue to be mindful of their usage and to practice conservation as a part of their daily routines.”

San Angelo relies upon O.H. Ivie and Twin Buttes reservoirs, and Lake Nasworthy as its primary water sources. As of Oct. 20, Ivie was at 13 percent capacity, Twin Buttes was at 10 percent and Nasworthy 75 percent. O.C. Fisher Reservoir was at 9 percent.

San Angelo has received 21.5 inches of rainfall to date this year. Normally, San Angelo averages 18.38 inches through Oct. 20. Last year, the city had received 13.28 inches by that date.
