Christians in Action Announce New Volunteer Program

On September 1st, Christians in Action plans to initiate a new "tradition," its newly organized volunteer program, announced CIA Executive Director Ron Landers.

"We have long felt the need for an organized volunteer program to supplement our paid employees," he explained.  "We have identified twelve separate areas where volunteers could make a significant contribution to our overall program of offering aid to those in need of financial, physical and spiritual need."

Anyone 18 years or older, is not related to any CIA employee and has a servant's heart may apply to become a CIA Volunteer.  Applications are available at the nonprofit organization's offices located at 555 E. 6th Street (behind the Alon station at the corner of Loop 306 and Main Street).  Once a person completes his or her application, an orientation time will be scheduled.  When this is completed, the volunteer will be assigned work a 2-hour shift in the chosen area.

Volunteers may choose to work in receiving/processing of donated items, stocking items in the thrift store, helping arrange and display store items, help with interior facility maintenance, help with exterior facility maintenance and grounds, help with the monthly Swap Meet, repair small appliances and/or furniture, helping in the administrative offices, working in Just for You Boutique, working the books area, helping with volunteer leadership or helping with special projects such as the upcoming September Bowl-A-Tho Shifts will generally be 2 hours, beginning at 8 a.m. and running throughout the day until 5 p.m. when the thrift shop closes.  Any volunteer may choose to work more than one shift and may choose the day or days he wishes to work.

CIA is open Monday through Saturday.

"We know there are many able-minded, able-bodied retired individuals in our area, many of whom have been involved in various professional pursuits.  These men and women have a great deal of experience to draw from and will be invaluable to Christians in Action," Landers stated.

The only restrictions are volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must not be a relative to any CIA employee.  Relatives may choose to volunteer together as long as they are not related to an existing CIA employee.

Anyone interested in becoming a CIA Volunteer should contact the office at 655-5127 or stop by 555 E. 6th Street, preferably between 8 a.m. and 12 noon, and ask for Pat.
