San Angelo Health Foundation Issues $485k in Grants to 6 Local Nonprofits

San Angelo Health Foundation Board Chair Mike Boyd recently announced that the Foundation has granted $485,211 to fund projects for six area nonprofit organizations.  The grant awards are for a diversity of programs including public safety, youth development, and medical care for our children.

Since its inception twenty years ago, the San Angelo Health Foundation has approved and awarded grants totaling $45,381,339 benefitting the Concho Valley region by funding 199 organizations for 595 worthy projects.

Grants Committee Chair Marilyn Aboussie said the following applications for funding were approved: 

Adult Enrichment Center was awarded $79,489 for outreach services, technology and facility repairs. The Adult Enrichment Center was established in 1987 to provide care to chronically ill and disabled adults. Their mission is to prevent premature placement in a nursing home, provide family caregivers with respite and reduce the potential for abuse, neglect or exploitation. They are open 5 days a week and are licensed to care for 68 clients daily. They provide two meals daily, entertainment, nursing care and transportation.

Cook Children’s Health Foundation was awarded $186,700 for medical equipment to expand and improve their health care services. Since 2006 they have been providing specialty pediatric services for San Angelo children. The specialty services they provide include – cardiology, endocrinology, genetics, hematology/oncology and nephrology.

Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $17,000 toward a small brush truck. The areas that Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department serves are Dove Creek, Knickerbocker, Twin Buttes area, Ponderosa Estates and Highway 67 between San Angelo and Irion Counties.

House of Faith was awarded $91,472 to purchase four passenger vans. Since 1994 this faith-based organization has brought Christian teachings to at-risk children in the community. They serve over 1900 youth in varying programs. The vans will assist in ensuring the youth can come and get home safely.

Irion County Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $95,007 to purchase a new rescue truck. This volunteer fire department was established in 1975 and is the second responder to Reagan, Schleicher and Crockett Counties. They are responsible for E water, MS operations. The new rescue truck will carry water, foam, the Jaws of Life, air bags and all the tools needed for vehicle extraction.

Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention Unit was awarded $15,543 towards the purchase of a new vehicle. The Crisis Intervention Unit was formed in 1999 to reduce the effects of trauma for victims of crime. They provide on-scene intervention services, victim counseling, assessment of needs, referrals, explanation of crime victim rights and many follow up services.
