State Representative Drew Darby Announces Re-Election Bid

State Representative Drew Darby (R - San Angelo) will seek re-election to represent House District 72 in the Texas House of Representatives.

A proven leader for West Texas since 2007, Darby currently serves as chairman of the Energy Resources Committee and on the powerful Ways & Means Committee.

“It is a privilege and honor to represent West Texas families and businesses that provide the fuel, food, and fiber to Texas and the nation,” Darby said.

“Tax cuts and additional border security and transportation funding were major successes this session, but there is more work to do to address long-term reforms in school funding, repair of dilapidated state buildings, and keeping our promises to retired teachers and state employees. I will continue to fight to make sure your state government never forgets the values and priorities of West Texas.”

This session, Representative Darby delivered on:

  • Truth-in-budgeting and truth-in-taxation priorities.
  • Authored and passed the largest permanent tax cut of the session, House Bill 7, which eliminated more than $150 Million in annual fees and surcharges, including the total repeal of the $200 annual fee on 600,000 Texas professionals.
  • Played a leadership role in finding resources to support Governor Abbott's border security initiative that provides specialized prosecutors to border counties to fully prosecute violent drug cartels, organized crime, and human and drug trafficking.
  • Authored and passed House Bill 40 reaffirming the constitutional property rights of mineral owners and providing regulatory certainty for the oil and gas industry.
  • As a Legislative Budget Board member, Darby took a lead role in crafting a state budget that eliminated the diversions of highway dollars from the State Highway Fund.
  • Authored and passed legislation preserving the "equal and uniform" protest for Texans' fighting to lower their property tax appraisals.

Texas House District 72 is made up of Coke, Concho, Glasscock, Howard, Irion, Reagan, Runnels, Sterling, and Tom Green counties. Representative Darby has served in the legislature since 2007.
