Marion McMinn, a claims administrator who has served as Risk manager on an interim basis since Jan. 5, has been promoted into the position.
The Risk manager oversees the Risk Management Division, whose responsibilities revolve around three concepts: protecting City property from loss or damage, protecting City staff by providing a safe work environment, and the resolution of liability claims against the City. McMinn succeeds John Seaton, who retired from the post earlier this year.
“My job is to protect the City’s assets – namely our employees and our property – and to help ensure the safety of our citizens,” McMinn said. “I take the position of Risk manager very seriously. It is both a deep honor and a heavy responsibility to be entrusted in this way.”
McMinn joined the City 16 years ago as a records clerk in the Police Department. In her six years with the SAPD, she held various administrative positions and worked three years as a crime scene technician. She was among the first civilians to hold that position.
McMinn has spent the past 11 years in Risk Management. She possesses an all-lines adjuster license, which allows her to handle all aspects of the City’s claims, including property, workers’ compensation, auto and general liabilities. She has held the Certified Workers’ Compensation Professional designation since 2007, is working toward an Associate Risk Managers certification and is an active member of the Texas Public Risk Management Association.
McMinn was selected as the City’s new Risk manager from a field of 23 applicants.
“Marion is extremely knowledgeable about risk management matters and has more than ably served in this job the past four months – she has excelled,” Human Resources Director Lisa Marley said. “Her promotion is not only a great opportunity for her personally, but for us as an organization to make even greater use of her abilities.”
