VIDEO: Trinidad Aguirre Explains the City Charter and It's Ongoing Review

Trinidad Aguirre, chairman of the Charter Review Committee, talks about possible changes to the City of San Angelo’s constitution, including an appointed police chief, evening City Council meetings and term limits for Council members, on the latest episode of “theCITY.”

The city charter, drafted in 1915, dictates much of how San Angelo’s municipal government operates. Voters have updated the document 12 times, most recently in 2007. The City Council recently appointed seven citizens to review the charter and recommended needed updates to the Council. Among the changes the committee is weighing is for City Council compensation. Voters will consider the changes in November.

The new episode also features Budget Manager Morgan Chegwidden explaining the City’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan, which prioritizes San Angelo’s infrastructure needs and identifies possible funding sources. The City Council will use the plan as a guide when making budget decisions later in the year.

Additionally, the show features Mayor Dwain Morrison accepting and inviting citizens to take the H-E-B Community Challenge, a statewide effort to improve Texans’ health.
