Residents Attempt to Save Belongings from Fire on Oakes and 13th

Heavy smoke is filling a two-story residence at Oakes and 13th Streets, where firefighters are rapidly working to a small extinguish a fire, radio traffic indicates.

The residents of the home have exited the structure and gas has been shut off. Power remains for the time being, however radio traffic indicates there are flames coming out of the electrical box.

It doesn't appear anyone has been injured in the fire, however when the firemen arrived on scene, they woke a sleeping resident from upstairs and carried the person out of the house. Two others were rushing into the house in an attempt to save their belongings, but were deterred from the efforts by the firefighters.

San Angelo firemen are working both stories of the structure, in what has become a non-stop morning of calls for service since the ice storm hit last night.

First responders throughout the city are tending wreck after wreck, and advise motorists to stay off the roads if at all possible and to avoid the loop and less-traveled streets.
