Few Hours Remain to Enjoy Your Vices

It’s New Year’s Eve and the final hours are ticking down before countless Americans vow to give up their vices and better themselves in 2015.

Locally, several San Angeloans will make similar promises to themselves, some which promise to hold the whole year, others of which will fade as the days stretch to weeks and the New Year’s excitement fades.

A recent poll conducted on the San Angelo LIVE! Facebook wall resolutions showed that of the 38 local respondents, 13 said they don’t make resolutions at all.

The most popular of the eight options was to lose weight/get into shape, which racked up over 32 percent of the total responses. Another 21 percent said they didn’t want to show up on San Angelo LIVE!, while 8 percent stated they’d like to improve their finances.

The least popular resolutions proved to be quitting smoking (nearly 3 percent), finding love and spending more time with family or friends (both at just over 5 percent), and doing more for others, which acquired nearly 3 percent of responses.

None responded that they’d like to advance in the workplace, and one person apiece wrote they’d like to get organized, write 2015 on all of their paperwork, “fight the city council natzies,” graduate college and post one selfie a day on Facebook for a year.

Of those who responded, an ambitious 17 percent said they hold their resolutions all year, while 14 percent said they remain resolute for 3-6 months or 1-3 months. Another 17 percent maintain their resolutions for a period of 1-4 weeks.

Women comprised the vast majority of survey respondents at 79 percent, and the largest age group was 47-57 year olds, followed by 25-35 year olds.
