Firefighters Battle Kitchen Fire Started by Frying French Fries

A small kitchen fire erupted just before 1 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of Oregon Avenue, just off Foster Road in south San Angelo.

According to the San Angelo Fire Department, the fire originated on the stove, where the home’s occupant had put on a small pot of oil to cook some French fries and forgot about them.

Engine 7 arrived first and saw smoke. Once inside, they located the fire on the kitchen stove. The occupant of the home told the firefighters that no one was inside.

The home experienced extensive damage to cabinets, the stove and a microwave, but it was all localized to the kitchen. The attic of the town home was not affected.

The investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was unattended cooking.

The occupant’s relative lives down the street and will stay there. The Red Cross was not needed, but the firefighters did assist the home owner in contacting State Farm, the occupant’s insurance agency.

There were no injuries.
